The billionaire George Soros is undoubtedly a very generous man.
As of March 2021 he is reported to have donated $32,000,000,000 to Open Society Foundations.
Which left him to grub along with a mere $8.6,000,000.000 for his own needs.
I take it he is a man of a modest and retiring nature.
Because if he or any of his foundations have donated a red cent or issued a sound-bite on behalf of the martyrs Chelsea Manning or Julian Assange, I have never heard of it.
I use the word MARTYR deliberately for it derives from the Greek MARTUS meaning a witness.
(The Latin for WITNESS is TESTIS which would no longer apply to Manning.)
Manning served 7 years imprisonment for his revealing the truth about the low crimes and misdemeanours of the United States and its puppets.
Assange has suffered a much longer denial of freedom and faces up to 175 years of imprisonment if extradited.
There is at least one historical precedent for the martyrdom of a Manning and Assange.
Roger Casement who revealed the secrets of Britain’s Crime Against Europe (the long preparation for war on Germany) was murdered by a British hangman in 1916
The British Minister in Oslo had failed to have him “knocked on the head” in 1915.
Like most of my fellow Catholics I’m no Bible scholar nor student of Catholic Canon Law. Is there any
reason ( I mean reason rather than doctrine ) virtuous persons, affiliated to other faiths or none, should be ineligible for canonisation by Rome? It seems from my limited knowledge of the New Testament that Christianity’s Founder taught that all persons of good will were destined for Heaven. An inclusive rather than exclusive fraternity and sisterhood.
In the case of the international humanitarian and Irish patriot I believe he went straight to Heaven. Not because he chose to become a Catholic in the end.
Francis Cardinal Bourne, Archbishop of Westminster, forbade any clergyman under his authority to
receive Casement into the Church.
An Irish priest, not under the Bourne’s jurisdiction thwarted the Cardinal’s ill-will.
