Three stars of the Irish Times set my teeth on edge.
One is a bigoted Atheist, raised a Catholic who vents his spleen on Catholicism.
The second, no less insufferable, is a Jesuit Priest.
The third the paper’s Political Editor, Jesuit-schooled and a contributor to “STUDIES” a reputedly learned journal.
I have no bias against Atheists, Jesuits, nor contributors to STUDIES.
But I suspect that some Atheists in the Media take comfort in their disbelief. No God implies no Sin
and no punishment for spreading lies.
A Great Uncle of my own was a Jesuit Priest, who had an article published in Studies in 1912 and
from 1923 to 1953 was Rector of Newman College, of the University of Melbourne, and longtime friend of Archbishop Mannix . In 1954 when Queen Elizabeth visited Melbourne she presented him with a “Gong” and the local artist who painted the Monarch also did his portrait (but separately, not together)
The Library in Newman College is named after him – Jeremiah Murphy.
The Jesuit correspondent who launched a corner-boy attack on Patrick Pearse and the 1916 Insurgents to commemorate the Centenary of the Insurrection is Fr. Seamus Murphy, and I hope to Christ that he’s no relation of mine. He compared Pearse with Daniel O’Connell, to Pearse’s moral disadvantage. I am an admirer of much of O’Connell’s work and would not lie to belittle that great man.The Jesuit has no such scruples in dealing with patriots who ultimately had more success than O’Connell. O’Connell declared himself a Benthamite Utilitarian, believing in the Greatest Happiness of the Greatest Number. He died amidst the greatest misery of the Irish people of the last two millennia.
But Seamus Murphy declared that Daniel O’Connell never shot a man.
Virtually every Irish schoolboy of my generation knew that Daniel O’Connell shot a man called D’Esterre dead in a duel 101 years before the 1916 Insurrection.
Others knew that subsequently O’Connell was arrested on his way to Ostend to answer a challenge
to a duel from Sir Robert Peel. O’Connell and Peel were more famous in their lifetimes than Pearse
was in his, and are generally better remembered still.
Irish Barristers were renowned for duelling, the only way their code recognised of defending their honour.
It seems to me that Seamus Murphy has no honour to defend as he still spouts worthless guff about
Republicanism of the Irish tradition.
There is no evidence whatever that Patrick Pearse ever shot anybody. He ordered his followers to
surrender in full knowledge that he would be executed for his leadership and the justified faith that
the Irish people would rally to the cause he led. He surrendered to save the people of Dublin from
the shelling and machine-gun fire of the British Army.
Fit men at the time, not wearing military Uniform, risked being presented with White Feathers, as
symbols of cowardice by ladies sharing Seamus Murphy’s allegiance and ignorance.
The 3rd Star, or perhaps TURD Star of the Irish Times, is Stephen Collins, who has published unsupported and insupportable assertions and allegations for decades.
Together with perverse opinions and perverted “reasoning.”
For instance he wrote in praise of an Anti-Fianna Fail Election Poster displaying xenophobic stupidity
which junior schoolboy bullies would consider beneath them.
There was “Senor de Valera” and “Monsieur Lemass”, as if having a non-Irish father, or a French great-grandfather, disqualified a person from taking part in politics. Clever it wasn’t.
In the past 100 years neither Cumann na nGael nor its Fascistic Blueshirt successors ever won a majority of seats in Dail Eireann.
Currently Stephen Collins admires Joe Biden’s campaign against infant human life and thinks that Biden is obliged by virtue of his office to support abortion on demand.
American Courts used compel citizens of non-slave owning states to return slaves escaping to their owners. The law was changed.
The current Federal Law on Abortion “Rights” does not compel citizens, or elected Government
Officials to agree with it, or fight for its continuance. To pretend that a conscientious Catholic can
claim to be at the same time against abortion, and fight for its retention or extension is perverse.
Unlike, say Fintan O’Toole I don’t have a degree,. Certainly not in Philosophy, God Help US!.
But I recognise SHITE when I smell it,

Today I decided never to buy the Irish times again.
This Jesuit must be paid as a British agent.
