LEO AND MAGNA CARTA – by Donal Kennedy

I think it was Tony Hancock who asked whether Magna Carta had died in vain.

It seems that Leo Varadkar is truly smitten with her.

Never mind that her key benefit, Habeas Corpus, has been suspended, as often
as Irishmen have been, by their necks, for the wearin’ of the green since the days
of King John who signed that Charter of Rights.

And wherever on the globe English monarchs’, and England’s Lord Protector’s
writ ran.

During first eight years of the reign of Eliabeth II, in Kenya alone, 1,100 Africans
were hanged by her officially appointed hangmen, whilst tens of thousands were
murdered, tortured or raped by her agents, not one of whom was ever brought to
justice.

Massacres and mass starvations were the common lot imposed  in one place
after another as Britannia waived the rules.

In my lifetime millions of Indians were starved to death deliberately in Bengal
and the chief architect of that famine, Winston Churchill, gloated. One might
have thought that Dr Varadkar was aware of that fact.
