Poised on the Edge – by Michael Lagan

An outdoor prison, totally at the mercy of one of the world’s worst human rights violators, a human rights violator which at this very moment has shut down electricity, water, gas, and supplies into an area less than half the size of Louth but in which 2.3 million people reside due to being displaced from their land.

Of course, I’m talking about the Gaza Strip.  On Saturday Hamas fired, according to some reports, thousands of rockets into Israel combined with an assault on the wall and checkpoints imprisoning Gazan Palestinians in that 17 square mile piece of land.  Israeli prisoners were taken by Hamas, prisoners who have now been hidden in tunnels and buildings all over the Gaza Strip.

Many Israelis are calling this attack by Hamas their 9/11, no doubt hoping to stir up American emotion and indeed international emotion harking back to that fateful attack by Al Queda on the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center, USA and so far it has worked.  There’s one problem with how Israel is attacking Hamas though.  Instead of targeting Hamas specifically, Israel is essentially carpet bombing the Gaza Strip, has cut off any and all supply routes into and out of Gaza, and has stopped gas, its electricity supply with reports that Israel’s warplanes have even targeted ambulances carrying wounded.  One report tells of an ambulance carrying up to 7 casualties to hospital only for the ambulance to be targeted by an Israeli jet killing all inside.

You see, the real issue here is how Palestinians are treated by not only Israel but also by its allies in the UK, the US, and indeed the EU.  Without hesitation, the UK, the US, and Brussels gave Israel their backing with America promising weapons and ammunition to a state that already has one of the most sophisticated militaries in the world with some of the worst human rights violations in the world.  Israel continues to expand its illegal settlements.  That word ‘illegal’ is acknowledged by the EU, by the UK, and by our own Irish government…yet no one dares to slap Israel down for continuing to expand these illegal settlements taking more and more land from Palestinians, taking more and more homes and lands which are older than Israel itself.

There is going to be an unprecedented ground offensive and it will be huge.  Indeed on the news today it was stated that Israel has sent ships and planes all over the world to bring back Israeli reserve forces who wish to come home to fight in the Gaza Strip and this is after over 300,000 reserve forces have been called up within Israel itself.  There is going to be a blood bath in that 17 square mile piece of land called the Gaza Strip and no doubt Israel will attempt to keep most of the war crimes quiet as it has done in the past but it will be up to the world’s media to make sure those war crimes are documented and the fight never stops to have Israel held to account.

Most pro-Israel news outlets are referring to the current aggression by Israel as the “Hamas-Israel War” but there’s one point worth making – if this is a war between Hamas and Israel, why are Israeli warplanes targeting ambulances, shutting off electricity, gas, and water to ordinary Palestinians and indiscriminately bombing residential areas?  If any other country or state in the world blockaded a minority population in this way there would be outcry from the UN and from ironically, the UK, US, and the EU, but because the state in question is Israel, no one would dare slap them down.  Usually, America would be first to declare war on another country carrying out the same actions as Netanyahu has called for but it seems America loses its balls every time Israel makes a move…thank AIPAC for that.  Am I antisemitic? No, I’m not, I’m anti-Israel for one simple reason, no one seems to have the balls to tell it to back down and back off and stop carrying out human rights violations, and while we’re at it, perhaps Israel could hand back the land lent to them as per the Right To Return.  The Geneva Conventions of 1949. United Nations General Assembly Resolution 3236 which “reaffirms also the inalienable right of the Palestinians to return to their homes and property from which they have been displaced and uprooted, and calls for their return”.

It seems the GENEVA CONVENTION even loses all power when Israel is involved. Strange that eh?

Amen brother. Solidarity is with those who would rather die fighting their oppressors than be slaves on their knees forever.
