The DUP have gone into a huddle today – the Twelve Apostles, as they’re referred to, are facing up to the fact that it’s make or break time. So will Sir Jeff take the money (£3.3 billion) from our Proconsul Heaton-Harris and forget about the seven crucial matters that had to be addressed before they’d return to Stormont? If it wasn’t so tragic it’d be laughable.
Leo Varadkar has claimed he told the Chinese President, who was recently in Dublin, that Ireland didn’t like China’s human rights record. Fair enough. But why in God’s name hasn’t he raised the roof at the absence of human rights – the slaughter of human life – in Gaza?
And does the Dublin government treat its citizens like children? Instead of rushing from one immigrant hot spot to another, trying desperately to quench the flames of racism, why don’t they provide the people with facts – how many immigrants have come into the south, how many have been allocated to each county, and then encourage a public conversation about fairness and hospitality and what is and isn’t possible? Maybe it’s the mushroom principle – feed them shit and keep them in the dark.
