The Irish Times lets fly with both barrels this morning – its two tame anti-Shinner columnists tell us why we’re all wrong about the cost of a united Ireland, and how Sinn Féin policy is dictated by a shadowy group in Belfast. And yet it appears that Pearse Doherty’s visit to Davy Stockbrokers has reassured the financial world that they are not going to upend the financial apple-cart.
Pat Cullen, union leader with the Royal College of Nursing, has been declared a republican and will almost certainly stand for Sinn Féin in Fermanagh/South Tyrone. Does this move make sense in a wider context too – that it’s OK to be respectably middle-class and still see Sinn Féin as the party that can get things done?
Finally, are you in love with Donald Trump? More than half of the US are, it seems: he’s now a convicted felon but his ratings in the opinion polls are doing just fine. What is it that his supporters love about this odious man?

Trump is a fascist who tried to overturn the democratic result of the 2020 election. He has lied and been found liable for sexual assault, he cares only for himself. He has also been accused of anti black bigotry. Joe Biden has many faults but none of those ones.
Pat Cullen term is up in the Royal College of Nursing by the end of the year. Why would she not join a party who’s leader is First Minister. The constituencies Sinn Féin are standing are Strangford, North Down, East Belfast and South Belfast.
Biden, Blinken and the whole US Administration are active genocidalists as are other western regimes
supporting the Israeli massacre and robbery of the Palestinians.

I really must say that framing the Pat Cullen debate in terms of her social class is both irrelevent and also completely at odds with how Ireland works.
Living in a Republic means that we are all equal, titles, social scales, money, entitlement are all completely terrible. We are all equal, all of us, every single person.
I think it should stay that way, would you agree?
