The rise of fascism in Europe as witnessed by the local national and European elections show how far the far right have progressed in the last few decades. The votes of over 4 million Britons for the Reform party added to the violence witnessed in Coolock Ireland and the Mosque attack in Southport England highlight the extreme dangers being faced by asylum seekers, people of colour and our brothers and sisters in Islam. It is my opinion we are entering the political period of the 1930 pre war Europe where fascism gained traction and scapegoats in the ‘other’ were personified as rats and sub-human. The Cable street riots on October 04 1936 offer a warning and a hope going forward. The Black shirts of Mossley under the banner of the British Union of Fascists terrorised the east end of London before embarking on a march of intimidation through the narrow streets of London to provoke and oppress the Jewish and Irish working class members of that community. The government of the day alongside trade union leaders and the top echelons of the Labour party called the community not to counter the fascist march but to allow the police to contain the situation.5000 uniformed fascists were to be protected by the state as they swaggered through the east end. People ignored that advice assembled in tens of thousands and sent the fascists packing in arguably the worst civil disturbance in England in recent time. Th Black shirts in London like the Blue shirts in Dublin blamed the economic distress endured by the working class at that time as being caused by the Jews. Nowadays many right wing fascists, although still anti semitic at heart, are influenced by Zionism not as a religion but a nationalist ideology to believe their enemies are not the Jews but the Islamists. The attacks on the synagogues are being replaced by attacks on mosques. Fascism needs a bogeyman, an enemy it can coalesce followers around. They also need economic despair experienced by the working class to rally the troops with its ‘all their fault’ .Not enough houses it’s the immigrants fault, not enough school places it’s the immigrants fault, huge NHS waiting lists it’s the immigrants fault.Taking our jobs our houses or places in the healthcare system It is an easy sell . The lack of the above public resources is the result of neo liberal politics as prosecuted by successive governments from 1979.The Thatcher Reagan trickle down theory. They have publicised debt and privatised profit. The real criminals in our society are in Stormont. The Dail ,Westminster The White house and Brussels. Let no one be in any doubt these fascists mobilising on an all Ireland basis are intent in destroying relations between the ‘native and the ‘other’ the state parties have encouraged Islamophobia for years for votes and their own agenda. The police will not stop these fascists , the judiciary will be lenient while people of faith and colour walk our streets with fear. Two people of colour were stabbed by fascists in Belfast on Saturday as a result of fascism not being taken off the streets by the State. We are going to witness more intimidation house evictions ,shops looted and burned to the ground and violence against the person, so long as the state facilitates these thugs, A loyalist sectarian killer and a Free sSate paedophile standing shoulder to shoulder in Belfast ,one with a Union Jack and one with the national flag of Ireland. We have criminals leading the charge, directed by shadowy elements from London sowing the seeds of hate violence and destruction. Time to face them down mobilise and remember the cry of Cable street ‘You shall not pass’ NO PASARAN.

Many years ago that great hypocrite Enoch Powell referred to rivers of blood in Britain if immigration was unchecked. What he meant was inverted, Enoch didn’t mind white people from Australia coming in, he meant black and brown people from India and the Caribbean. It was so much easier to spot a racist then. Powell yearned to be Viceroy of India. Oh the irony. People like Nigel Farage didn’t want white people from the EU, countries like Bulgaria or Romania. Farage married a German woman, like his master Trump he likes his women to be from the European mainland. The problem really started with the rise of Islamic fundamentalism, where you once had a Catholic or Protestant coming from Jamaica you now have people coming from war torn countries like Afghanistan or Iraq. Of course, the fact that Britain helped destabilise these and other countries is conveniently forgotten. So it is more difficult to spot the old fashioned type of racist now. Some people are just scared and some people are just being led by the right wing.
