For the past week the media, particularly but not exclusively in the North, have been on a blood-hunt against Sinn Féin. They lied, they dissembled, they put children at risk – the list goes on.And every media orifice emitted its guff: The View, Nolan, Talkback, Prime Time. You’d nearly think an election was on the way – if you can get the public focused on bogyman Sinn Féin, maybe they won’t notice the Dublin government’s house-building record, its creaking health service and all the stuff they’ve in the past were what should be concentrated on, not silly Sinn Féin stuff like a border poll.
The open delight of various leaders – Biden, Starmer, Netenyahu at the death of Yahya Sinwar, the Hamas leader, joined seamlessly with their lack of concern over the slaughter in Gaza.Is there any level to which these people will not sink? But maybe there’s beginning to be a reaction. Biden and Starmer and others may support Israel’s ‘self-defence’ (was there ever a word defiled as that one is?), but the general populations in the West know brutality when they see it – no matter by who.

Jude, I didn’t watch the Late Late Show on RTE on Friday, where Patrick Kielty mocked SF, calling them traitors, but I did read a report the next day where it was stated some in the Audience began Booing the presenter for poor taste and joining the bandwagon. That suggests to me that not everyone is buying into the Fine Gael, Fianna Fail, Labour, Social Democrat and Media Election witch hunt of SF.
I’m also sure that those same bodies might have felt very disappointed to day, while learning that SF had only dropped 2 points in the latest opinion poll, which is within the margin of error.
Could be an interesting election yet!
SF were being vilified at the height of the conflict when bombs were going off so a wisecrack from a talk show host isn’t likely to have much impact on their supporters. The usual suspects (Paul Clarke, Stephen Nolan and co.) have been banging on about how bad the party are for a while now, bringing on the usual anti Republican commentators. At least Bobby Storey is getting some peace now.
Jude I can tell ya the media here in the South is much worse than in the North the anti sf bias goes on daily
The View From Stormont were STILL banging on about it last night. Must be a record?
