I began to write a blog in March 2024, as the war against the Palestinian people was raging in Gaza. Already, more than 30,000 mostly women and children had been killed and many more injured by Israeli forces acting on the orders of the Netanyahu government.
They claimed that they are fighting the Palestinian military organisation, Hamas, in self- defence after Hamas attacked an Israel settlement near the border on October 7th, 2023.
Now, a year and nine months later 45, 000 Palestinians have been killed and thousands more injured -and there is no end in sight.
It is a cruel campaign of genocide aimed at forcing the Palestinians out of the land they have lived in for generations. Many people all around the world of all religions and none have protested against the Israeli offensive in Gaza. They are moved to protest by the cruelty and intensity of the bombing and killing in Gaza.
I have spoken out for the Palestinian people before this latest outbreak of genocide. In 2005 I took part in a conference in London organised by a pro-Palestine solidarity group.
I received some hate mail in social media. I was forced to take on Facebook for giving a platform to some Israeli supporters to denounce me and the Palestinian cause.
Many people have been disappointed, but not surprised, by the US support for Israel. The US government is always on the side of those with money and wealth.
I believe in the prophetic role of the Christian minister /priest to speak out boldly about what is wrong or unjust in Church and State –no matter what the cost or the consequences. “The truth will set you free”. At baptism we are called to be priests, prophets and leaders. We are assured of the gift and power of the Holy Spirit to enable us to be prophets. That is what we are called to be in the world today.
I am speaking out once again about the murder of innocent people in Gaza by the tyrant Netanyahu and his corrupt Israeli government.
I am glad to see the Israelis gone out of Dublin. “Good riddance”.
Joe, you are right about the genocide of Palestinians, which my country supports.
It is shameful to see this nasty foreign policy, and it is not the first time my country has supported oppressive regimes.
