And so this is 2025. Have you received the letter telling you you’ve got an OBE or an MBE or a knighthood? No? And if you did receive such a letter, what would you do. Pat and I discuss the matter (hello again, Hugo).
We also discuss the way headlines are used in newspaper articles, and decide that Diarmaid Ferriter’s article in today’s Irish Times is misleading and (of course) anti-Shinner.
Hilary Benn, the British secretary of state, has lodged a High Court appeal against the family of Sean Brown having a public inquiry into his death. We discuss the smell of collusion in this case, and what a British SoS is for.
And finally, we both suggest a book to take you through the dark days of January. But meanwhile hit that triangle below and lift the New Year gloom….

Interesting commentary on the murder of the late Mr.Sean Brown. Unacceptaple that the familyare still without answers so many years after his death.
Very disappointed in fact Sec of State is seeking a JR into the learned Judge’s directive namely that public inquiry best way to proceed.
Such an action raises the question that there is something to hide from the general public not just the family.
Again this is not indicative of a healthy society. Lets work on the premise that a way forward is to reveal the secrets of the dirty war.
Important that Mrs. Brown and her family get a full public inquiry which they are able to fully participate in .
