Counter-intuitively, it really can be dispiriting to hear sympathetic words for the people of Gaza. Yes, I know, I know – nearly everybody now has compassion for the crushing of so many Palestinian lives.
But there are some who are depressingly late to the scene. The Irish bishops have been calling for peace for quite some time now – but peace all round – Gaza, Israel, Lebanon, etc. Only today, it appears, have they found the will (or something) to frankly condemn what most of us have known for a long time – the genocide in Gaza.
But there’s always some sliver of consolation. The Catholic bishops may have been slow and nervous about coming out into the open and condemning what’s happening; but there is one group, and a large one at that, which far from condemning the savagery and slaughter of Gaza, continues to give Israel succour and to fly the Israeli flag. Yes, I’m talking about you, TUV, and you , DUP, and very possibly you too, UUP, to make a unionist hat-trick.
Israel may not have brought death and destruction of human beings to Ireland, but it has brought the death of compassion and the destruction of straight thinking to the unionist political parties here.
Question: how do they sleep at night?

Would the IRA have had such American diaspora support if it had carried out mass murder, rape and kidnapping of British civilians? I can’t understand the sympathy from Irish republicans in regards to Hamas at all.
many Irish support the Palestinian right to have their own land-
the British promised the Arabs their own land if they would fight the Turks with Lawrence of Arabia- they done that and then they brits renaged on that deal when the Arbs won against the Turk-
