Was it fear of immigrants, hatred of immigrants, good crack having a go at the peelers – or a mixture of all these elements. We try to tease out a few details.
And as Ballymena burns, something similar is going on in Los Angeles. President Trump has brought in the National Guard and is prepared to back them up with a contingent of Marines. This seems obviously law-breaking by Trump, but the decision has been frozen in the courts. Is this, as the California goverenor has called it, Trump taking his next step towards an autocratic state? Can he be stopped, and if so, by whom?
