First , a confession. I’d never heard of Charlie Kirk before his fatal shooting yesterday.The photographs of him present a neat, good-looking conventional 31-year-old, with that wide-eyed look you sometimes see coming from evangelist Christian.That doesn’t mean he was totally caught up in spiritual matters. On the contrary – he married a former Miss Arizona and worked assiduously spreading the gospel of the right.
Looking this morning at his public statements,he clearly was a man with no qualms about speaking his mind. When an American football player collapsed on field, Charlie took the chance to imply that it had to do with inoculation: “This is a tragic and all too familiar sight right now: Athletes dropping suddenly.” When a trans man was involved in a school shooting in 2023, he spoke of ”transjihadists” and claimed there were plans for “trans genocide” – there was,he claimed a “violent undercurrent” among the trans movement. He repeatedly denounced Martin Luther King (having lauded him a few years earlier).King,he said, was “awful” and the 1964 civil rights bill “a mistake”. He claimed King had been”mythologized”or even “deified”.
Charlie, the victim of violence, was not a pacifist. He suggested it was fine to “fire next to” migrants. And he believed homeless people should be put in”mental asylums”
He is credited with persuading millions of young people into being active in the Trump movement. Trump himself was loud in his praise. But the facts appear to show a young man who saw a crypto-fascist band-waggon trundling by and shouted “Hey! Wait for me!” That said, his killing shows the worst possible response to someone many would disagree with. As George Bernard Shaw said, “Assassination is the ultimate form of censorship.”

Charlie Kirk was a racist. He called George Floyd a scumbag. He fully supported the insurrection on January 6th. He was fully behind Trump’s vicious and cruel deportation policy. His political views were awful. There are lots of people in America who supported his opinions. The Orange moron in the White House will use this murder to stir up more hatred, that’s what he does best. Nobody can be in favour of his killing, if you are then you have to accept the right of the other side to kill progressive speakers. The killer has not been caught yet, although he had so many enemies it could be anyone. I am no expert but how can someone shoot somebody in broad daylight in the middle of the day in front of thousands of people and slip away? “There is footage of the assassin, very similar to the Trump shooter. If he is not apprehended soon this could develop into a fully fledged conspiracy theory. RIP Charlie Kirk. Nobody deserves that.
A `Jude, I agree with you completely. My only reservation about my blog post would be that I didn’t emphasise enough the brutality and cruelty of taking a human life.RIP CK indeed.
I Smell a Rat.
{ probably released from Langley }
So he deserves to be shot dead Jude, is that what you’re saying? This website is turning into a cesspit.
Well it is if people misread what I say and try to translate it into something else. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, S, but making stuff up and putting it in someone else’s mouth strikes me as pretty cesspooly…
With all due respect, how do you come to that conclusion? I thought Jude’s analysis was pretty respectful and didn’t suggest anything about Charlie Kirk deserving such a brutal death.
Specsavers buddy
I was just beginning to hear about him, but everything I heard was disturbing especially given he was peddling this to young people. However, even though he claimed a few deaths were worth it to protect gun rights (rather ironic, isn’t it?), I think it’s past time to work on gun reform laws. No civilian needs rapid fire guns or body armor unless they are hunting people. By the way, there was another school shooting that got buried in the Charlie Kirk news. Add that one to the one in Minneapolis a couple of weeks ago, and they are more reasons for gun reform laws.
Very good Jude free Palestine
