Last night in Windsor Castle

Did you watch last night’s banquet in Windsor Castle honouring President Trump? I did, and I don’t know if my digestive system can survive another such experience.

A hugely-long table heavily decorated in flowers, some 150 place settings, an orchestra,  toasts, free-flowing wine: my thoughts raced to the ending of Animal Farm, where the exploited animals peeked in at the celebratory banquet between the pigs and humans, and looking from one to the other, found it difficult to distinguish which was which.

So who was collecting the tab for last night’s beano-feast?  The British taxpayer.Assuming 150 guests – an underestimate in my opinion – the food and service would have cost £200,000, the wine and drinks some £80,000, the flowers and crockery around £30,000, the orchestra around £15,000, the staffing and cleaning around £20,000. The total would come to around £250,000. For one meal. When you add in the cost of policing and security for Trump’s visit, you’re talking around £10 million.

All this in a state where some 16 million people live in poverty, including over 5 million children.   And a banquet for a man who is a billionaire, who is on record as urging men to grab women by the pussy and who has been convicted in court of 34 crimes. Mind you, he was sitting beside another man who is also a billionaire and who is on record as wishing he were his mistress’s Tampax.

So this is how the free world and democracy operate.

I managed to avoid the disgusting spectacle of wealthy people sitting entertaining one of the most hideous human beings on earth. A fat, ignorant, deceitful narcissist. Keir Starmer, like him or loathe him, is an educated man. He KNOWS just how horrible Donald Trump is. The Labour politicians who were at the forefront of the protests against the insurrectionist in chief the last time he visited the British monarch were on this occasion bowing and scraping to him.
