Poor Paschal shuffles off the stage

Poor Paschal. Poor, poor Paschal. To keep a bite of bread on the family table, he’s had to take that offer of a job with the world bank. He’s going to have to slave and sweat in his role as managing director and chief knowledge officer in Washinton DC. The World Bank is the largest development bank in the world, so Paschal will probably wind up being the hardest working man in the world. He’ll have to earn every penny of that 600K + salary.

What a gap he’ll leave! The Blueshirts may not look upon his like again. His critics (yes, Virginia – hard to imagine anyone criticising Paschal but there you are) claim that he spent more time thinking about the EU and less about the state that employed him. There were also mutterings that he was far too timid to make the kind of tax reforms that would help make the South a more equal society. And some more again said that he knew as much about ordinary people’s lives as a blind man knows after six pints  about tight-rope walking.

Poor Paschal and poor Ireland. We must not look to hear again his sweetly lisped words, his winning smile, his gentle voice soothing the fears of Ireland’s millionaires. We’ll miss you, Paschal.

At this rate of stepping down, the Blueshirts will have nobody of greatness left within their ranks.
