Something profound is happening

I’ve just received by email an electronic booklet from Declan Kearney of Sinn Féin. I’ve had quite a number of reports from Declan, but this is easily the most timely and important to date. It’s called Eire Nua.

You can’t have missed that there are more speeches and books about a united Ireland around in recent times. I’ve often felt that such commentaries about reunification were welcome but a bit diffused, a bit like voices crying out separately. But the fact remained that a number of activists, like those in Sinn Féin, felt strongly about national unity; those in the DUP recoiled from the very thought; and there was a large group in the middle who were focused on other things. You might have compared the situation to 1916: some burned with patriotism, some detested those who led the Easter Rising, and a large group in the middle had more to do with their time.

I think that’s changing now, even as public opinion changed after the Rising. In this latest booklet separate voices have been gathered and, as you might guess, they’re urging a border poll and talking about how a reunited Ireland might look. The voices that were separate are becoming a chorus, and the uninvolved middle group is coming to life.

We live in exciting times. Have a glance through this link to the booklet and see if you agree.

but just getting the cart over the line will take a lot of foresight, open minds, Forgiveness and humility.
I’m all for a pole preparation so long as it is more than pole dancing.

Good Luck for now. A whiff of change is in the air . . . Stiofan
