PAT+JUDE TALK ABOUT SENATOR MITCHELL, EPSTEIN FILES, FLOODS IN THE SOUTH (RoI?) AND WHO’S TO PAY?

SENATOR George Mitchell, late of this parish, has been among those name found in the Epstein files. A US-Ireland postgraduate scholarship scheme has hastily removed his name from their award. Were they right to erase him?

The South/RoI has been drenched in floods, with County Wexford reporting people whose livelihood has been destroyed. Should the Dublin government foot the bill, or should they leave that to be covered by the victims’ insurance systems?

And finally, word is that face-recognition cameras may be set up in public places in Ireland. Is this a splendid device that helps locate criminals, or an intrusion into the privacy of honest people?

Is it still possible to use that old expression Indian Giver? I think it refers to the native Americans taking back gifts. George Mitchell like Sarah Ferguson and Peter Mandelson is realising that something given can indeed be taken back. Personally I think it is a bit lousy. Mitchell did a lot of hard work over here, his personal life is his own concern, unless he has broken the law. He went to Epstein’s island but from what I read it must have been the biggest land mass in the Americas. Better if they had gone to the Mull of Kintyre, a lot colder but the music would be worth it.
