Jeffrey who?

There’s a photograph of Donald Trump standing alongside Emma Little Pengely, presumably on St Patrick’s Day. The caption below reads ‘Both  hoping the other won’t mention Jeffrey’.  It’s a tidy little joke, but while Jeffrey Epstein is the nemesis stalking Trump, Emma’s bete noire is Sir Jeffrey Robinson. Remember him?

Sir Jeffrey was arrested and charged  with rape and other sexual offences in March  2024 , but his trial has still not happened.  Centuries ago Shakespeare’s Hamlet listed ‘the law’s delay’ as one of the thing that might drive the Prince of Denmark to suicide.So what’s the delay in Sir Jeffrey’s case?

Well there’s a backlog, it seems, with complicated cases waiting for over a year. Sir Jeffrey’s case is now over two years since he was charged. Apparently his wife’s health has been a factor. She’s been accused along with her husband, and apparently she’s unwell.

To which you might respond with “No wonder”. Of course the whole affair must be taking its toll on her health. She is charged along with her husband , and that’s held things up. But those who can clearly  remember that Sir Jeff once led the DUP are becoming fewer with the passage of time.

I’m sure there’s no intention by the  DUP  to draw out the affair as long as is possibe. But there is a sense that the more time passes, the more the public will forget, it’ll be natural to think of Gavin Robinson as the DUP leader and the little face which shone with innocence,  the suit which was always decorated with a silver Christian symbol, will slip from the public  consciousness completely.
