M & S make a bags of it

John Hume was told by his father that you can’t eat a flag. Might a faint shadow of doubt been cast over this assertion by Marks and Spencer? Apparently they’ve launched a shopping bag which has a Union flag on the side of it.

Actually, they’ve used these bags frequently in the past – in Britain. It seems they are aware that not every NEI shopper would want to trudge around with a British flag on show, so they avoided the butcher’s apron design in NEI.

But then,we’re told, some numbskull shipped by mistake a load of bags with the British flag on it. to NEI. A temporary blip, we’re told, and the bags will be phased out.

In the meantime, I suggest they show their total neutrality in NEI politics and design and release a small number of bags with the Irish tricolour on  it. That would doubtless be applauded by politicians here, especially those in the DUP and the TUV.

Was listening to an indignant Nolan today, and thought, surely NI has laws which guarantee employees a neutral working environment!
That means no political flags or bunting in favour of one political grouping.
So this means that M&S were acting illegally in displaying these union jack bags!
    Nolan nows nuttin!

Yes, and Ulster Unionist Leader Jon Burrows has been letting off steam that M&S CEO should realise that there’s nothing wrong with the bags as the GFA enshrined the right to be Brirish, Irish and both. Good to know that Jon is keen on the workings of the GFA and the important things in life, especially at a time when most are struggling to heat their home with the cost of living crisis and rising costs. Jon really has his finger on the pulse.
