You’re probably familiar with Delcy Rodríguez. She has been acting as president of Venezuela since. Nicolo Maduro, the president, was kidnapped by US forces acting under the command of Donald Trump. During her swearing-in ceremony, she denounced Trump’s blatant kidnapping; since then she’s called for peaceful co-existence with the US.
Yesterday, after two earthquakes hit Venezuela, she declared a state of national emergency.
She seems a principled woman, but given that Trump allows her to govern, she must be able to bend her principles a bit.Trump has clearly broken international law (again) but she’s carrying on and trying to run Venezuela as if nothing had ever happened – apart from those two earthquakes yesterday.
This is the dilemma state leaders sometimes have to grapple with. The dark side of this is that, given the passage of time, people may forget what Trump did. The bright side is that this encouraged Trump to believe he could exert his will in Iran, by killing the major leaders of that country. Why bright? Because it has provoked Iran into choking the commercial life out of the US and the rest of the world. None of us will enjoy the economic consequences of the closure of the Strait of Formuz, but a great number of us will be leaping in the air and composing conga-lines to see Trump’s war crime against Iran backfire and bring him to his knees.
Always look on the bright side of life….

Putin, Trump, Netanyahu. Three wicked men who have dragged their countries into the mire. Their infamy will live long after their demise.
