I’ve never been a babies man. In my experience, they spend much of their waking hours screaming, crying and/ or shitting. They have a habit of throwing up what they’ve eaten, especially if you’re holding them. That way they get to ruin your best jacket. And as for having a conversation with them -don’t start me. They’re hopeless. Can’t put two words together.
In the Dail these days, they’re busy looking at the compulsory three-day wait for women who are planning to have an abortion in the early weeks of their pregnancy. Some TDs are for keeping the three-day wait, others for abolishing it. It’s notable that more than 10,000 women have, on reflection, decided not to proceed with the procedure.
My view is that if you wouldn’t kill a baby in its cot after birth, you shouldn’t kill a baby in its mother’s womb before its birth. Those who disagree with me are in the majority in the South and the `North too, I expect. Those who believe in abortion cite the case for the woman’s choice.
In that case, shouldn’t they support the three-day wait? A decision that will reverse itself during a three-day wait sounds to me like a decision that probably was shaky in the first place.
As I say, I’m opposed to all forms of abortion. But this abolition of a three-day wait, which has proven very important for over 10,000 babies alive today, seems to me patently absurd. Three days? I wish to God it was just a matter of three days before they sliced into my hip and replaced this wonky apparatus that I presently hobble about with.
And before anyone says it, I don’t equate a hip with a baby. My hip-joint is an inanimate part of me. A baby is an animate part of the woman carrying it. Three days? FFS…
I love babies but I couldn’t eat a whole one. Boom boom. Unless they are jelly babies. I have no children and I am extremely unlikely to have any now but I loved my nephews and nieces when they were babies, still do of course. I detest abortion, I am repulsed by the very idea of it. I also dislike hypocrites who preach against it while locking immigrant children in cages and begrudging their parents money to clothe and feed them.
It’s complete hypocrisy for Sinn Fein to so eagerly support this, whilst campaigning against the ongoing genocide in Palestine. Since abortion was legalised in 2019, almost 50,000 procedures have been carried out thus far in Ireland.
SF’s support for abortion is totally wrong. However that is because they are not and have never been a “Catholic” party. They are a party with huge Catholic support, a totally different thing.
