Trump the charmer

Let me start by congratulating Donald J Trump. The guy’s a master of the deal and all things flim-flam. I watched him last night seamlessly insert himself into Shane Lowry’s golfing win with his repeated support for a united Ireland and his celebratory removal of the 10% tariff on Irish whiskey.  I had to make a conscious effort to separate this and his expressed affection for Irish people (‘Although you can be vicious bastards’) from his funding of Israel with weaponry to continue the slaughter in Gaza with the deaths of 77,0OO+ of innocent people there.  You can see why the MAGA people in the States love the orange-faced horror.

The truth is,  evil comes in many guises. The most dangerous guise is that  of ‘daycent guy’. I expect that the guy who dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima loved his wife and family, that Churchill who ordered the bombing of German cities was a very effective public speaker as well as being a skilled writer and painter. And I’ve heard Hitler was genuinely fond of children.

Look behind the transformation of Doonbeg. Look behind Shane Lowry’s victory. Look beyond the deep irritation Trump caused the DUP and others.  Look beyond the transformation of Doonbeg.

Trump has a powerful charm. Such men are dangerous.

Didn’t Hitler love his Alsatian dog? Totally agree with your analysis of Trump who I think is a damaged and wicked man. That’s why he appeals to the racists of the world like Musk. That’s why Farage sucks up to him. Trump can use his snake oil charms but mostly he doesn’t feel the need to bother. There’s only one person he truly loves and that’s the man who stares back at him from the mirror. As the expression goes, I wouldn’t trust him as far as I could throw him.
