Today marks the anniversary of the attack on Israel by Hamas. Using bulldozers,, vehicles and hang-gliders, Hama poured through the defence breaches and slaughtered some 1200 Israelis and took 120 captive.
This must have involved months of meticulous planning, as well as an astonishing lapse in border defence. Israel’s IDF has always been on the front foot in defending Israel, and Mossad, its intelligence service, is considered highly effective. The attack must have taken months of planning. So how on earth did the slaughter three years ago happen?
The New York Times has reported that Israeli officials had a 40-page Hamas battle plan, code-named “Jericho Wall”, more than a year before the attack. It described a rocket barrage, drones disabling border surveillance, and the takeover of southern communities and bases, which is broadly what happened. Israeli officials dismissed it as “aspirational” rather than practical.
Frankly, I find that hard to believe. I’d hesitate to say that Israel allowed the October 7 three years ago to happen – it seems inconceivable that Israel would sacrifice over a thousand of its own people, in order to have an excuse for a full-frontal assault on Gaza. But then, I find it hard to believe that Israeli force have obliterated Gaza and killed over 75,000 Palestinians.
Prime Minister Netanyahu has resisted calls for a state commission of inquiry, saying that half the nation would object.

Living in this part of Ireland, it pays to have a somewhat sceptical opinion when it comes to governmental shenanigans. Like the old saying goes, never believe anything until there is an official denial. Would Netanyahu deliberately allow hundreds of innocent Jews to be slaughtered just to give him an excuse to start implementing the Greater Israel project? Yes. Experience here shows us how nefarious so called leaders can be.
