Dear Editor:
Surprised that President Obama embraces the rogue State behavior of the Castros (“The Cuban Casualties…” 3/22)? The Cuban dictators have done nothing in Cuba the British haven’t done in N. I. and we warmly refer to the US-UK relationship as ‘special.’ U. S. officials practically swoon in the presence of British royalty. You lament the false imprisonment, torture and death of Cuban patriot Rafael del Pino Suarez but at least he was given a sham trial. There was no such formality for Patrick Finucane and Rosemary Nelson, two lawyers assassinated by British security forces for doing their job upholding the rule of law. President Obama or Congress may forget the victims of the Castro regimes but there is no doubt they have forgotten Finucane, Nelson and hundreds of other innocent Catholic victims of British lawlessness.
Sincerely,
Michael J. Cummings

GRMA Mr Cummings and Bravo
No GRMA mr Cummins and no bravo. Using Pat Finucane’s name to call Cuba a rogue state is totally out of order.Cuba is a great friend of Irish republicanism.A monument to the hunger strikers takes pride of place in Havana and the Cuban ambassador is guest of honour at SF’s ard fheis.Cuba has stood up to an imperialist neighbour for decades and is highly regarded by everyone I know for doing so.Pat Finucane or Rosemary Nelson would never have sided with the Yanks against Castro.
