“After the uprising of the 17th June

The Secretary of the Writers’ Union
Had leaflets distributed in the Stalinallee
  Stating that the people
Had lost the confidence of the government
And could win it back only
By redoubled efforts. Would it not be easier
In that case for the government
  To dissolve the people
   And elect another?”

        Bertold Brecht, 1953.

Two days after the Election (2016) Ruairi Quinn berated the Dublin working class for its failure to support the Labour Party

Donal, Rurai Quinn ‘berating’ Dublin’s workers reminds me of my favourite political line, where Denis Healey described a dressing down by Geoffrey Howe as being like ‘being ravaged by a dead sheep’ slan na stickies

Not ‘ravaged’, Mark – ‘savaged’as I remember it. Much more painful…
