“Twenty minute walk through Crumlin Glen on an Autumn day is always very welcome. Got these first 5 photos on Wednesday down in the Glen.
I was asked this week by one of our wildlife conservation groups what was my favourite wildlife moment from 2016. Took me a few minutes to think over all that I’ve seen this year, but one definitely stands out, finding a Long-eared owl nest a few fields from my house. Pic 13 is of the nest site with a male Long-eared owl on watch whilst the female sits on newly hatched chicks in the middle of the tree. What a find.”
(Just to let your readers know that you need to be licensed to photograph nest sites, and causing disturbance at a nest site is a criminal offence and carries heavy fines and you can also end up in prison. If you ever come across a nest just back off and watch it from a safe distance. But yet the UDA in Carrickfergus can intimidate families in their homes for months at a time at a policing cost of £1.6m and rising and the PSNI stands idly by, asking for others to mediate.
So its safer joining an active paramilitary gang than going near a bird’s nest!
