“Three separate characters from a stroll around Dublin. The first man (Pic1)  along the Liffey Boardwalk finds solace with the pigeons. This area is a haunt for those down on their luck and who have usually resorted to some kind of de-sensitizer, either alcohol or drugs.  He looks lost in thought but relatively at peace with himself. Out there he may have siblings, parents, a partner and family. Who knows? Who cares?

The young lad on the Ha’penny Bridge (Pic 2)  is a common sight in most cities, including Edinburgh but especially Dublin,  where the recent Apollo House sit-in has turned the spotlight on its extent there and the ineptitude or incapacity of Government to deal with the problem.  We are the donor, willing to make a paltry contribution but don’t ask us to make eye contact or engage directly with the problem.

The doorman at Brown Thomas (Pic 3)  is a retired gárda, full of good cheer and  providing excellent PR for this up-market store as he happily engages with the public on Grafton St.  His behaviour is the accepted norm; he has worked hard all his life and, in retirement from the service,  he now enjoys this part time job which probably does more for his mental health than for his pocket.”

“D’EMPHASIS   is on MEMPHIS

PIC 4:       During the performance of ‘Jailhouse Rock’   the use of wooden chairs as dance partners was not an option. The joint was jammed solid.

PIC 5:         Elvis’ birthday was actually on January 8th. Well, if the Queen can celebrate two birthdays, why not the King?

PIC 6:         Mine’s a Blue Suede Shoe.

PIC 7:         Graceland before Meals.

Like Pic No.1 the best. The best thing I like about animals is they don’t talk. Dogs are great company. My own dog thinks I’m the best guy in the World when I give him his breakfast and a bone for him to chew afterwards. Then he sits quietly at my side, both of us content, without saying a word.

I don’t think many people do that anymore, simply sit in silence for a while, without laptops, phones, the radio, the TV, etc on as a distraction but just sit and pour over your own thoughts for 30-60 minutes.
