PAT+JUDE TALK ABOUT THE ROYAL VISIT, LEO vs MICHEÁl, BERTIE, AND A WOMAN WHO SWALLOWED BATTERIES

Is Sinn Féin in the driving seat in NEI? It looked that way, when King Charles came to town. Can the DUP ever recover from its present doldrums? Would an election help?

There has been protest in Britain against Charles assuming the role of King. Is Britain tolerant of anti-monarchists, or does dissent get shut down when it involves something central to the Establishment?

And then there’s Bertie Ahern. We may be in autumn, but it may well be Springtime for Bertie – there’s talk about receiving him back into Fianna Fail, what with the behind-the-scenes work he’s doing with Tony Blair.

Arnott’s store in Dublin has opened its Christmas display – yes, I know, crazy, crazy. But they must think it makes sense. And Chris de Burgh’s daughter was the chief Christmas-launch personality on the big occasion.

And talking of crazy – what about the woman who swallowed over 50 batteries and had them removed in Dublin’s St Vincent’s Hospital?

All this and oodles more…

North Korean analogy a bit of a stretch, Pat: everything is relative. Yet the ‘posttruth’, ‘new norm’ conformist pressure monolith is universal today: through hoops of consumerism, bread & circus, As I recall Bertie was obliquely involved in brown paper bags of punts being handed over in the Parnell pub.
‘Rehabilitated’ may have been the word that was on the tip of your tongue.
