The DUP and royalty : where now? – by Bert Simnel

SF played a blinder, they showed how to be civil to your neighbour regardless of your differences and history. The DUP can’t show the same civility and that’s not lost on Charles.

Charles had a bit of craic with Alex and Michelle. He more-a-less pleaded that continuity and reconciliation continue; that’s out-of-step with the mindset of Nolan, Jim Alistair and the DUP. But they’re also out of step with the majority of progressives. Jeff had no craic, he looked awkward and couldn’t bow his head any lower.

Charles is not dim, he knows all about Irish – English history and I believe he feels a duty to address past issues. I didn’t sense any bitterness from him.

Belfast and the majority of towns in the north are dying, a massive contrast to the south, where Dublin is a busy bustling city, Malahide is a small town which would put Bangor or Carrickfergus to shame.

The small towns in the North are over-run with loyalist drug gangs, and they’re dead after 5pm. No craic in these towns and that is no accident: locking up
swings on Sundays is still their mentality. Young people are leaving here in droves to head to Dublin or London, and the majority that leave are no better off financially but they want a bit of life/ craic, which is absent up here.

This is all the DUP’s doing, their not-an-inch in every progressive area has pushed young people away.

And I believe the next SOS will take no crap; he was a former chief whip. The DUP have neither charm nor a clear vision of where they want to go. They cling onto England and the royalty, hoping it’ll stop them having to work with their neighbours here, believing their grovelling loyalty will be rewarded. But I don’t believe the English will be so dim. The English know this place is a drain and an embarrassment.

The amount that cling onto government jobs here is obscene, it’s killed all entrepreneurialism and creativity.

As for Liz Truss, she’s been given a bit of space due to the royal  funeral, but next week she’ll soon realise how vulnerable the UK is. She’ll be in no position to fight with the EU. I believe her crazy rhetoric was to win the leadership; now she’s in and is safe from a leadership challenge by the ERG – too close to an election-  she’ll be more sensible than her  campaign has suggested.

The pomp and ceremony that GB can put on is impressive, but the Queens demise is also GB’s demise. The Brexiteers just can’t accept it but Brexit will be their humbling.

King Charles couldn’t even say NI, he referred to here as ‘this place’. If President Higgins had made the same speech and called NI ‘this place’ Arlene,/ Jim Alistair etc. would’ve been apocalyptic on Nolan. But they can’t say boo about the King.

DUP don’t have a clue on how to show leadership, all through the years they, the sammys, Gregory’s Nelsons and many more, were in their element sniping at everything from the sidelines then they get their hands on the steering wheel and are just clueless. Embarrassing bunch of reprobates
