Israel’s iron wall – how come it was breached?

In 2021, the Israeli Defence minister reassured Israelis that there was a  barrier  around Gaza that would protect Israel.  Benny Gantz said the mix of steel and concrete barrier placed an “iron wall” around Gaza and would protect Israelis in the south from Hamas. “This barrier will provide Israeli citizens a sense of security and will enable this beautiful region to continue developing and flourishing,” he said on a visit to the border in 2021. Despite this 20-foot fence, radar systems and underground sensors, over a thousand members of Hamas were able to enter Israel and butcher those they found for six hours. Israel defence forces showed up six hours later.

Why was that? How was that?

In all the words and print spilled on this conflict, the question of how the wall was breached has been largely ignored. In fact, I’ve never read any detailed or credible explanation.

I have a suggestion which is almost too dark, too Machiavellian to articulate.

If the wall was as high-tech and strong as the Israelis believed, then the truth would be that Hamas could not have penetrated it without the IDF knowing. We’re told that Hamas had been planning this top top secret assault for several years. Israel has a highly-developed intelligence system, yet apparently not a whisper got through that an attack was being planned.

In the absence of a better explanation from those who know more, one appalling possibility enters my head: perhaps the Israelis deliberately ignored intelligence that suggested Hamas was planning an attack. Perhaps Israel intelligence knew where the attack was being planned.

And allowed it to happen.

I have no evidence that this was the case, but in the absence of any other explanation of this massive breach in the wall, it insists on suggesting itself. Sensors were turned off, a particular part of the wall was decommissioned, Hamas got the word and walked into the trap. What they did then was so ghastly that the world’s sympathy went to Israel. The Israeli defence forces deliberately delayed appearing,  so that Hamas would spill Jewish blood on a massive scale. They then were able to enlist the sympathy of many states, including the US and the UK, as they prepared to drive Palestinians permanently from Gaza.

Cold-blooded? Sure thing. Nightmarish? Certainly.

But (i) what would you call what’s happening now in Gaza? And (ii) What is your explanation for that breach in the iron wall?

    I’ve been thinking similarly Jude.
Such a massive breach of security, perhaps Netanyahu let it happen so now he and his fascist crony’s can exterminate or expel the Palestinians from Gaza forever with little condemnation from western governments.
Tragically it all working to this plan – they are serious about getting rid of Palestinians from Gaza.
As for the Palestinians in the West Bank, they have them where they want them – subdued and constantly being surrounded by Israeli settlements. Palestinian here have no future either.
Putin is the winner in all this. He can bomb civilians at will and point to Gaza to highlight western hypocrisy

Now that Al Jazeerah has effectively debunked the Settlers’ claims that the bomb was a failed Palestinian launch the question still remains as to what caused the explosion. There was a similar explosion in Sarajevo in August 1994 when a mortar shell landed in the market square killing 68 people and injuring 200. Images from the time show practically no damage to the surrounding area, market stalls etc. were left completely intact despite the massive casualties. The shell left a crater a few cm. deep as did another one which fell nearby.
The Settlers claim that their weaponry is too powerful to have caused the blast, it left a fairly small crater not unlike the Sarajevo ones yet caused many deaths while scarcely damaging surrounding buildings etc. The Al Jazeerah video shows 4 or 5 Settler air strikes in the area in the minutes leading up to the blast, as well as several rockets being destroyed by their ‘iron dome’, (the Settlers are claiming that they had no operations in the area at the time, the date stamped video proves this to be another lie), the crater left by the blast looks similar, if slightly larger, to the one in the Sarajevo attack i.e. a high explosive artillery shell. There has been recent footage of artillery being fired over the fence, where are the shells landing? What do the impact craters look like? More questions than answers but don’t hold your breath.

If you have no evidence for this conspiracy theory, then shut your gob.

Evaluation of known facts, real imagery and historical context etc. is not a ‘conspiracy theory’ , it’s a genuine attempt to come to a credible conlusion, and certainly a viable alternative to the constant flood of mendacious and self-contradictory fairy stories emanating from the ‘gobs’ of the settlers, Those of us who support the rights of defenceless dispossessed people will not be “shutting our gobs”, for as long as it takes, (hate to dissapoint you).
