In 1949, in a pointless exercise, Taoiseach John A. Costello stuck the label “Republic” on the republic established by the electorate (on the guidance of Eamon De Valera) over a decade earlier.
British Cabinet Secretary Sir Norman Brook prepared a Memorandum dismissing Ulster Unionist arguments for the continued Partition of Ireland, ending with the quotation above, and Prime Minister Atlee marked the document “Noted”,
Atlee went on to pilot through Parliament a new “Ireland” Bill, which he and other informed people knew to be nonsensical. The UK has no Constitution and its Government cannot commit its successors to follow its example. Attlee’s Act purported to vest the future of the Six Counties in the Mickey Mouse “Parliament” of “Northern Ireland” a body which was swept aside by Edward Heath years before Sir Norman Brook’s Memorandum was released for publication under the 30 years rule.
Under the Government of Ireland Act 1920 purporting to set up two Parliaments in Ireland it was stipulated that “Every, Person, Matter and Thing” in Ireland would remain under the authority
of the Imperial Parliament in London. Atlee’s Ireland Act did not revoke that stipulation for the
Six Counties. Nor has any further Act done so since.
It is frequently claimed the the Republic shelters under British protection. That is a false claim.
The Republic is fettered under British threats. Its recent Governments have falsified Irish (and World)
history to serve a British Imperial Agenda.
Its Decade of Remembrance has been a sham. It might have had the guts to examine the Lusitania,
lying in shallow Irish waters, to reveal its cargo and expose the lies which induced credulous and
gallant Irish youth into the the killing fields of Europe and the Middle Youth to avenge its passengers.

OOPS!
“Middle Youth ” should read “MIDDLE EAST”
“ATLEE” should read “ATTLEE”
