And how different was Trump’s meeting yesterday with Sir Keir Starmer. Yes, Keir did touch Trump on a number of occasions, but nothing like that Macron fellah. The high point for the good knight Keir was when he pulled out the envelope with an invitation from King Charles to pay a state visit. Trump loved that. ‘The king has invited me for an unprecedented second state visit!’ You’d need a strong stomach to watch some of these things.
And hands up if you remember Boris Yeltsin? Right. And do you remember when Albert Reynolds went down to have a quick chat with him at Shannon, and Yeltsin was so tired and emotional, he couldn’t get off the plane? Ah, memories, memories….
