This Canadian federal election is more consequential than any federal election I have seen in 37 years here. I voted yesterday in advance voting and the line-ups were longer than I’ve ever experienced here.The Polievre led Conservative party has been in campaign mode for well over two years. We have been inundated with slogans including “Axe the Tax” (a reference to the carbon tax on petrol etc), Canada First (borrowed from Trump), Build the Homes, Fix the Budget and Stop the Crime.These slogans are not just political soundbites; they want to reflect the very real frustrations tories think people are feeling as life becomes more unaffordable, uncertain, and unsafe under the current Liberal and NDP approach.But they’ve been knocked off course by Trump’s unpredictable, unforeseeable desire to annex Canada.This election will be a contest between:(1) Ousting the Liberals after almost 10 years, to which a natural antipathy has grown as well as a frustration and anger at the perennial corruption scandals that long governance foments…. If (2) is the issue of the day, Mark Carney will win.I’m inclined to believe that Carney will win but I also believe that better motivation on the day(s) of voting will win. The Conservative supporters have been ramped up in anger for some time. Polievre has the lead on feeding and growing the anger on his base.Had Trump’s attacks on Canada not happened, Polievre would have been home and dry. The resignation of Trudeau was caused by the success of the relentless campaign by conservatives to make him resign. I already have voted for Carney . Poilivere like his full cousin trump are egotists who only ever care about themselves. Mark Carney is also very proud of his 75% Irish / Co Mayo bones!
