A few hours ago, Pope Francis died. Did you like him? Did you worry that he didn’t come out and denounce some things, and didn’t create other things? Why did some people – Catholics, what’s more – detest him and wish for the day he’d be gone?

One of the last people to whom he gave an audience was US vice-president J D Vance. The Veep is a Catholic – so is that why he was honoured to be granted an audience? Or had he other motives?
