RSH The Forward Moving Tongue – by Randall Stephen Hall

RSH. The Forward Moving Tongue.
By Randall Stephen Hall.
Including the song THE BOATYARD
From the album “Wake the Blue Sleeper”

Am I a son of the soil
Anymore or less than you?
The tongue in my head
Beds itself down.
Once a creature of the crown.
Now, a shrinking idea
Within our heads in the North.

My tongue, my tongue
A shape shifter.
A lifter of spirits.
Invoking the dead king of love.
The idea that spirits live above us
And within us.

We progress towards
The trial,  beyond Lughnasa.
Them three boys in some bloody hassle.
But the rattle snake at home, here
Is the queer auld view of ourselves.
Of our own “clattering chassis”
The upper middle classes, both up here
And down below, the Dublineers.
With no concept of Belfast
And why there is no peace
In the six county star of the North.

Is it worth having a look
At how the books get cooked?
As we get hooked on our phones
And hung out to dry, liked smoked Herring.
For the ghost of Martin
And his comrade Gerry, begin to step aside
As a new Sinn Fein emerges.
Unable to even dribble the ball
Across the goal line.

It’s all fine and good to be
The wood kern, the kern in the wood.
But please, will you ever see us?
Beyond joking about “them tight Prods”
When all you do is promote the old ideas.
Revealing your age old ability
To do bad things to ordinary people like us.
While wrapping it up in a redundant flag
And what could be a positive language.

However, will you ever be done
With calling us Brits?
Will you ever be done
With knee capping our potential love
While ham stringing our progress
To a united Ireland together
By creating a New Ireland
On our tongues, in our mouths
In our minds And in our hearts.

Shitty stereotypes is only
Good for old farts.
Words of hate only keep us apart  mate
Words of peace, healing and renewal
Is an art.

Let the phoenix rise with the Eagle.
Let the fox run with the beagle.
Let a new day break before us.
Reach the bridge
And kiss the chorus.

THE BOATYARD. song.

The moaning whine of the settlers, who, after nearly 400 years, still have no self-awareness of why their ancestors were sent to Ireland or what they did once they arrived.

I’ve heard it poetically best expressed as, “As they reached the shore, they fell on their knees and prayed to God, and then they reached the indigenous people and preyed on them.”

Centuries followed of dressing up as yeomanry, B-Specials, RUC, and UDR, and also joining the plethora of loyalist organizations, including those that the UK would not prescribe.

Terrorizing their native neighbours, enacting all sorts of special laws to criminalize their language, religion, aspirations, and resistance. Internment, pogroms, murder, and prison followed.

We nationalists and Republicans want a shared future that will be accommodating to the decent and righteous cultural needs of those descended from the King James I/VI plantation, but forgive us if we repudiate these efforts at the whitewashing of reality, even if expressed in a type of poetry.

Apartheid is not compromised with. Both sides are not equally to blame. Invasion, occupation, and suppression are not equated to resistance.

Some honesty from unionism is de rigueur to achieve reconciliation, which itself will only be possible after we achieve an Ireland based on equality, not one that perpetuates the perversities of an imperialist conquest.

Thanks Gabriel, I will check this out. I think you are telling me things I already know.

if you cannot relate to people beyond branding, the past you may need to step into the now and relate to me as an individual rather than a football team.

Ca I tell you something you may not be aware of, but should be. However, as we don’t teach our children about the end of the Nine Years War or a special period between 1601 and 1610 you may not be aware of this enlightening tale.

if you check out an earlier post of mine that Jude put up called “The Handshake”, this information might surprise you.

let me know what you think.

And I will read your response as I will treat you as an individual, not a Conquerer, bad person etc etc.

Good Luck, Go raibh maith agat, Stephen Stiofan
