TRUMP TELLS THE UN IT’S GOING TO HELL

I expect you saw some clips from Trump’s near-an-hour long rant at the UN.   Maybe you thought he was addressing the UN delegates. No he wasn’t, any more than Ian Paisley was never talking to a camera but to his stone-age supporters back home in Ballymena.

Here are five aspects of Trump’s speech that might be worth looking at close up.

  1. Trump explained that climate crisis was a con-job. Easily said, Donald, but there isn’t a single piece of respectable research that says anything but that we’re on our way to a planet on fire, choking and drowning, if we don’t act now.Such Trump talk hinders the efforts of government who are concerned about climate crisis, but are hindered by environmental lying on a massive scale like this.

       2. The UN is all talk and no action.  There’s  something in this. The UN, for example, has declared                  Netanyahu a war criminal, but has made no moves to arrest this odious man. Trump is implicitly                 telling the world that he is a man  of action   – he walks the walk while the UN dithers. Well, if you              call unmarked vans  driven by masked yes-men as action, yes. Trump is  actively                                           pursuing and  arresting anybody  who seems  interested in free speech. If your actions are those of              an authoritarian, yes, you can be congratulated by those who love a Strong Man.

3. Trump figures other countries are weak on immigration and as a result have been”devastated” by massive floods of immigrants.

There’s no easy answers to immigration. But the problem clearly must be addressed by international co-operation. What kind of country prides itself in slamming the door in the face of frightened, desperate people?

  1. Trump spoke about the way immigration “devastated” countries. In other words, immigration/foreigners are a threat and undesirable, and the fewer we let in and the more we kick out, the better.
  2. Because his escalator at the UN got stuck, Trump referred to it as “a bad elevator”. Not malfunctioning, bad. He also wasn’t wild about his teleprompter. The fact that both it and the escalator might have been the responsibility of his own team never entered the equation.

It’s easy to laugh at this man, with his rambling speeches and totally absurd orange facial make-up.          But this man plans to be a dictator.Nothing less will do.

On the question of arrest, Jude, I don’t think the UN , as a collective, has those statutory powers, MOSSAD used to track ‘war criminals’ , kidnap them and parade them at Tel Aviv courts

Watching Trump make a fool of himself whilst humiliating his country put me in mind of the late Neil Innes and his song, “How Sweet To Be An Idiot.” No more need be said.
