Twenty General Elections have been held in the United Kingdom since 1940. One man has held a Parliamentary seat there since 6 June that year. A full 76 years, a period longer than the combined tyrannies of Franco, Mussolini and Hitler. Unlike Hitler, he never stood for election or ran for office, but he served in Governments led by Winston Churchill, Anthony Eden, Harold MacMillan, Alec Douglas Hume, Edward Heath and Margaret Thatcher. He served as Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Association, a body purportedly established to defend democracy against its enemies.
He was British Foreign Secretary in 1981 when avowed IRA prisoners and INLA prisoners were chosen by voters to abstain from taking the Parliamentary seats they were entitled to in London and Dublin. He declared – “The IRA represents nobody.”
He was British Defence Secretary from 1970 to 1974 during which suspected republicans were interned in Northern Ireland following arrest by soldiers under his control and unarmed protesters were gunned down in Derry and other places by British soldiers. A Labour Home Secretary reported that the decision to torture prisoners originated with British Ministers, in particular the Defence Secretary in 1971.
No policeman has yet felt the collar of this prime suspect.

HAHA BYC – I had a good laugh when I read that quote originally too!
I’ve lived in England these past 51 and a half years and intend to continuing the rest of my life here.Despite Government inspired propaganda. majorities of English respondents to Opinion Pollsters have consistently favoured a free and united Ireland.
Making friends with former enemies is desirable.It means that the former enemies acknowledge that their enmity was based on a misunderstanding or even that there was mutual misunderstanding.
There remain enemies whose ill-will persists and seems destined to inspire their words, actions and politics so long as they breathe. I see no reason for me
to soft-soap them or suck-up to them. Let the Devil take them – if he/she thinks they can stomach them!
