What a pathetic story!
I’ve never read such rot. Jayne Fisher has worked at Westminster for Sinn Fein for many years organising Sinn Fein receptions in Portcullis House, welcoming Tory, Labour and other MPs, Peers, Bishops (CofE) ,Diplomats, and Journalists. She is well-liked by everyone and if Jeremy Corbyn has poached her from Sinn Fein, it’s probably the best move he’s made since his election, not just to leadership of his party, but to Parliament.
The Fields of Athenry should offend nobody.Even the Irish Rugby Football Union has no objection to it though it can’t bring itself to have the Irish National flag flown nor the National Anthem played at international matches outside Dublin.
David Lloyd George was known to sing “God Save Ireland!” with Nationalist MPs. It was written to honour three Fenians hanged in Manchester for shooting Sergeant Brett of the Manchester Police Force.
Jeremy Corbyn aide ‘sang rebel song with IRA killer’
Jeremy Corbyn faced criticism today as it was claimed his new aide sang an Irish rebel song with an ex-IRA killer. As disclosed in yesterday’s Standard, Labour MPs are angry that Jayne Fisher, former chief at Sinn Fein’s London HQ, starts work in the Labour leader’s office next month. Her title will be head of “stakeholder engagement”, in charge of relations with outside bodies.

But she refused to sing along with British Army killers.

“She is well-liked by everyone and if Jeremy Corbyn has poached her from Sinn Fein, it’s probably the best move he’s made since his election, not just to leadership of his party, but to Parliament.”
Employing a Shinner merely reinforces the view that he’s a Provo sympathiser. Not going to help him at all.
Yet again, DK (do you have any middle names?), you miss the point. It isn’t the song, but who she chose to sing it with. McFarlane was a sectarian killer who was convicted in connection with the massacre of 5 people drinking in a bar on the Shankhill purely because they were Protestant. Vile, just like the idiotic Jeremy.
Joe, would you be good enough to stop referring to people as sectarian, vile, idiotic, etc? If you don’t, your comments will be taken down.
I won’t attribute any of those adjectives to an individual in responding.
For the record though: Joe McVeigh used the term “vile” in naming an individual (and his business) in a blog on this site. DK did not use the term “sectarian” outright, but accused MT, Billy and myself of being inspired by a hatred of Irish people and our “neighbours” in a separate blog which many readers called on you to take down. (Comments that were baseless…especially considering my own wife is Catholic). You let both of these blogs stand.
As for McFarlane. His gang planted a bomb in a pub in a staunchly Protestant area, then shot the terrified people fleeing as they ran out to try and save their own lives. I will let readers decide on which adjectives they would use to describe him on this occasion.
was just looking there jb.yes both blogs are still up,i am portrayed as hating people with beards, hating burkas, hopefully the last of a dying breed, and all baseless as you point out,and not a dickybird about it.seems one rule for one and a different rule for others the way the old stormont was.
Pointing out the wrong-doing of others is a poor defence for your own, JB. As to ‘many people’ calling on me to take something down: when that happens (and they are NOT many), I invariably respond. If you are complaining about other people, do it in a separate post, directing me PRECISELY to where it was said and in response to what blog when, and I will check it. Meanwhile, the first sentence still holds.
Hi Jude. It is in THIS blog:
http://www.judecollins.com/2016/12/hating-ones-neighbours-donal-kennedy/
You will note that the author accuses myself, MT and Billy of being inspired by hatred of Irish people. (sounds like an accusation of sectarianism and is COMPLETELY baseless). If you have your reading glasses to hand, you will see that at the end of the FIRST paragraph).
Keep your specs on Jude, because in the FINAL paragraph, the author states that he hopes we are the “last of a deluded breed”.
Many people did express in the comments section that they felt this constituted personal abuse and should be taken down especially as the author names us specifically in the BLOG, approved by you of course. There was myself, NT and Billy (no surprise), but also Brian Patterson, Gio, PF, Ceannaire, Freddie….there were a few others. I know aboriginal maths is more associated with Australian aborigines rather than these mythical Irish ones, but: 1,2…many?
In addition to taking it down, perhaps you would consider compelling the author to provide evidence CHAPTER and VERSE of where I have said anything that is in any way sectarian or inspired by hatred of Irish people?
*Shankill
The families of Joanne McDowell and Linda Boyle murdered by the unrepentant terrorist McFarlane must be pretty disgusted by the appointment, as must the families of all the other victims.
Do you mean ‘seanchill’,joe? And how do you think the aboriginal Irish feel when some of the terrorists from the British Army are promoted/knighted etc after their behaviour here?
aboriginal Irish? You mean the Fir Bolg? Does that mean you want the Celts, the Vikings and the Ulster Scots out? Adams would have to go too!
This kind of hyper-nationalist eugenics is indicative of a pretty warped and misguided mindset.
Here we go again
No, no, no,joe. We only go back as far as the English land grabbers because there is no evidence that the previous peoples stole land. They settled and were assimilated by the people already there. That’s the difference. Nobody held on to Mammy England only the colonials. They occupy the same place as the Gibraltar British. As Ali G says are you here on holidays? Or are you MT or are you a troll?
hahaahaa! The Celts and the Vikings just asked if they could stay did they? LOL!
That’s the problem with ethnic cleansers….their argument always gets exposed as the lowest form of racist infused, auto-heretical, nationalism
The key word, joe, assimilate. Not too many on the Irish east coast call themselves Vikings but plenty Britishers still knocking about. And I realise that none of us can be sure of our pure lineage. How many of us came from the sexual depredations of the English land thieves? The point is if you want to be Irish you live in Ireland and if you pine for the mainland and Finchley well you move to be among your own people. How many generations can you remain as an ex-pat?
The fact that you think that the vast majority of Unionists have any English heritage in the first place or have an affinity to England other than as a distinct nation within the UK shows how confused you are. Great to see your naked sectarianism exposed though. You’ll be DNA testing people next.
NI is not a nation and never will be .
“NI is not a nation and never will be .”
Under what definition, out of interest?
Lord Robathan sounds like a real piece of you know what.
It is incontestable that theFields of Athenry is a fine song and that the toxic hypocrisy and barely concealed racism of the British Gutter press is beyond loathing. However let us look at the whole picture. The Bayardo bar was chosen by the Provos for attack, allegedly in retaliation for the Miami showband massacre and allegedly because it was a haunt of the UVF. Howe very only one of the five people killed was a UVF member. The others were an ageing doorman and his brother-in-law and two young women aged 29 and 17. If the attack was meant to deter sectarian attacks it manifestly failed. Rather it sparked off a new round of retaliation and counter retaliation in which innocent non combatants, mostly Catholic died. Gerry Adams and the late Brendan Hughes were reputedly horrified by the Bayardo attack.Bik McFar lane has never, to my knowledge, expressed any remorse for the attack. In that context the deciàsion to have a sing-song involving McFarlane was in terms of hurt not so different from a scenario wherein Derek Wilford sings “The White Cliffs of Dover along with Boris Johnson. And at the very least ill-advised. I say this as unapologetic Irish republican.
